Updates from ExpressYard, Intrade International, Siemens, Bombardier and CIT Group
Among the latest developments in the rail supply industry:
• Appalachian Railcar Services Inc. (ARS) has selected the ExpressYard repair billing and operations management system for its network of freight-car repair shops. ARS will roll out ExpressYard wireless handheld hardware and Web-based application across its eastern U.S. facilities. The company will use ExpressYard to manage repair bills, inventory, payroll and mandatory repair event reporting to Railinc.
• Intrade International Inc. obtained contracts totaling $1.7 million in Venezuela to supply one Mantis re-railing crane and one Knox Kershaw ballast regulator model KBR0925. The company also won a $400,000 contract in Brazil to supply one Knox Kershaw ballast regulator to a private contractor as part of a three-year rehabilitation program that's under way.
• In January, Siemens AG will restructure its organization into three sectors — industry, energy and healthcare — and 15 divisions. The industry sector, which will include Siemens Transportation Systems, and energy Sector will have six divisions each; the healthcare sector will have three. Siemens AG plans to appoint global heads for each division in December.
• A Bombardier Transportation-led consortium won a $65 million contract from the Latvian Railways to modernize a signaling system on a major east-west corridor. The consortium includes telecommunications provider Belam. Bombardier's share is $18 million. The contract calls for supplying, installing, testing and commissioning a BOMBARDIER INTERFLO 200 signaling system on routes between Krustpils and Rezneke, and Krustpils and Daugavpils by late 2010. The consortium also will provide all telecommunications and power equipment for the line, and install traffic control centers in Jelgava and Daugavpils.
• CIT Group Inc. appointed Paul Curry senior vice president of CIT Rail. He will be responsible for sales efforts in the Northeast and Southeast regions, and several Midwestern states, as well as product management for coal, metals and lumber rail-car fleets. Curry joined CIT Rail in 2000.

InTrade International wins crane, rail-car mover orders in Venezuela
InTrade International Inc. recently obtained additional railroad equipment orders in Venezuela.
The company won a $1.2 million order from CVG Ferrominera Orinoco CA to supply five Swingmaster 181TC multi-purpose cranes. One of South America’s largest iron-ore miners, CVG will use the cranes to handle ties, rails and other materials for a track expansion project that’s under way.
InTrade has delivered two of the cranes and will deliver the remaining three units in March. CVG previously ordered two Swingmaster cranes from the company in first-half 2006.
Meanwhile, InTrade also won a $260,000 order from Orinoco Iron CA to supply one Shuttlewagon® mobile rail-car mover. InTrade delivered the machine in November. Orinoco Iron is using the Shuttlewagon to relieve locomotives at its mineral loading hub.
